Vocational education curriculum to be uniform in country: Dr Raj Nehru

A concerted effort is underway to develop a uniform curriculum for vocational education across the nation, aligned with the principles outlined in the National Education Policy 2020. To achieve this goal, a meeting was convened by the UGC Committee chaired by Dr. Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor of Shri Vishwakarma Kaushal University, focusing on drafting the curriculum, credit framework, and assessment standards.
The meeting saw the participation of esteemed individuals including Vice Chancellor of Centurion University of Technology and Management, Professor Supriya Patnaik, Professor of Practice at IIT Delhi, Professor Bhupinder Godara, Professor of Practice at IIT Madras, Dr. V R Lalithambika, Professor Prashant Gupta from IIM Nagpur, and Deputy Secretary of the University Grants Commission, Monica, as coordinating officers.
Chairman of the committee, Dr. Raj Nehru said that the committee will soon submit its recommendation to the University Grants Commission.
During this meeting, extensive brainstorming was conducted on the structure of vocational education. The primary focus is to establish a uniform structure of vocational education nationwide, in accordance with the National Education Policy.
Dr. Raj Nehru, Chairman of the committee and Vice-Chancellor of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, emphasized the crucial importance of aligning vocational education with the demands of emerging technology and
industry.
This alignment will render the courses employable and ensure that the industry receives job-ready human resources. Additionally, standardization of the credit framework in vocational education and determination of evaluation standards will be undertaken.
