What began as a district-level celebration in 1989 has blossomed into a global phenomenon, traversing cultural and geographic boundaries. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal, the event has evolved into a global phenomenon, fostering harmony, a celebration of spirituality, culture, and duty beyond borders. The roots of this monumental event trace back to 1989 when the Kurukshetra Development Board initiated the district-level celebration of Gita Jayanti. Little did they know that this humble beginning would burgeon into a global phenomenon, resonating with the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Today, the International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) stands as a testament to the enduring relevance and universal appeal of the Gita s profound wisdom. As the International Gita Mahotsav gears up for its 2023 edition from December 7 to December 24, the anticipation is palpable. Beyond being a cultural extravaganza, this event serves as a conduit for fostering global harmony, where people from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate the shared values encapsulated in the Gita s teachings. A highlight of this year s Mahotsav is the Vice President of India, Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar s presence. On December 17, 2023, he will perform Git pujan at Purushottam Pura Bagh of Brahma Sarovar. The same day marks the inauguration of the Gita Seminar at Kurukshetra University, enriching the event with scholarly discussions. At the helm of this transformative journey is Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, whose unwavering commitment to Gita s teachings has inspired not only the citizens of Haryana but also resonated across international borders. The Gita, for him, is not merely a scripture but a guiding principle shaping his political philosophy one that emphasizes duty, righteous action, and service to society. The celebration goes beyond spiritual activities, encompassing the restoration and development of 134 pilgrimage sites within a 48-kos radius. As narrated in ancient scriptures, these sites in Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Jind, and Panipat districts are meticulously being renovated, preserving their religious and cultural significance. Visitors to the Gita Mahotsav are invited on a pilgrimage, connecting them with Haryana s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. The International Gita Mahotsav has ventured beyond Indian borders, reaching Mauritius, London, Canada, and Australia since 2016. In Canada, the establishment of Bhagavad Gita Park stands as a testament to the global impact of the Gita s teachings. (editor dailyworld.in)
