Protesting SCs attacked by 50 men: NCSC seeks report

Taking note of the brutal incident in which 50 men had attacked a group of protesting villagers at village Masadiya, Batala, District Gurdaspur, while severely hurting 15 of them, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on the orders of Chairman Vijay Sampla, issued a notice to the Punjab government and asked the officials to submit an action-taken report.
As per the information received by the NCSC from a new article published in a daily newspaper on September 25, some SC people, who were representing a labour union, were protesting against the village panchayat over illegal auction of a village land when a group of 50 goons started attacking them. During the chaos, the accused started assaulting the protesting villagers in which 15 of them got severe injuries. The injured were then taken to Batala civil hospital.
While asking the officials to intervene into the matter and to ensure justice is provided to the SC people, the Commission sent the notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Punjab; the Director General of Police, Punjab Police; the Divisional Commissioner (Gurdaspur Division), the Inspector General of Police (Border Range Gurdaspur), Deputy Commissioner (District Gurdaspur) and the Superintendent of Police (District Gurdaspur).
The Commission asked the authorities to investigate the matter and to submit an immediate report through post or email, based on the facts and information on the action taken on the allegation/matter, before
October 2.
