Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Monday inaugurated the Mai Daultan Mother & Child Hospital at Goniana, in this district.
Speaking on the occasion, Sidhu said that the state-of-art 20 beds MCH has been set up at a cost of Rs. 5.25 cr equipped with all modernised facilities. The 'Mai Daultan Mother and Child Hospital' which has been set up in Goniana would prove to be a milestone in providing healthcare facilities for mothers and their newborns.
He said that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Health and Family Welfare Department has been providing quality healthcare services to the people on priority basis and taken concrete decisions to further strengthen the health infrastructure.
Sidhu further said that the Corona warriors of the Health department are fully geared up to deal with the probable third wave of COVID-19. He said that now, there is no shortage of oxygen in Punjab as the Punjab government has established 75 PSA Oxygen Plants across the State.
The Health Minister informed that in the last two years, 11,500 posts of different cadres have been filled in the Health department and soon, 4000 nurses and other staff would be recruited for which recruitment procedure is under process. Assuring the Goniana residents about the demand for medical staff, Sidhu said that shortage of doctors in Goniana Hospital would be addressed soon on priority basis.
Notably, the Punjab government decided to name 37 Mother and Child Healthcare (MCH) Hospitals setting up in the state after the name of Mai Daultan, who took care of Guru Nanak Dev at the time of his birth.
On this occasion Constituency MLA Pritam Singh Kotbhai, Deputy Commissioner B. Srinivasan, former MLA Dr. Gurjant Singh Kutiwal, Director Family Welfare Adesh Kang, Dr. Karanbir Singh Dhillon, Civil Surgeon Tejwant Singh Dhillon, President Municipal Council Manmohan Dhigaran, Chairman Market Committee Kulwant Singh, Mandeep Singh Makkar, all the MCs and other dignitaries were present.
