DW Bureau | Chandigarh, Sep 21: A delegation of the Tricity Bike Riders Union met senior BJP leader and BJP National Council member Sanjay Tandon on Monday and raised issues related to bike-taxi operations, registration and challans in Chandigarh.

Led by Union president Sahil, the delegation sought a clear mechanism for registration and a transparent framework for operating bike taxis. The riders said enforcement action and challans were affecting their livelihoods and urged authorities to provide a lawful mechanism to continue their work.

Tandon said the concerns of the riders should be addressed through dialogue and a practical approach. He assured the delegation that he would take up the issues with the concerned departments.

“There is a need for clear guidelines and a transparent system so that riders understand their rights and responsibilities and can work in accordance with the rules,” Tandon said.

The delegation claimed that enforcement action had intensified after the suspension of licences of major private app-based aggregators in Chandigarh. It cited reports of 231 vehicles being challaned and 16 impounded between September 9 and 12.

The riders also discussed the recently launched Bharat Taxi service in Chandigarh, which includes bike services and follows a cooperative model. They said they were willing to comply with applicable rules and sought a sustainable avenue for employment.

Chandigarh BJP leaders Ravinder Thakur and Pradeep Yadav, who accompanied the delegation, also assured the riders that their concerns would be raised with the administration.
